About this winery

After the French Revolution, Faugères began to grow vines. In the 19th century, the quality of the brandy produced was such that it was given the name of Fine de Faugères. Facing the sea and dominating the coastline, the Pays de Faugères enjoys a Mediterranean climate with plenty of sunshine and heavy rainfall in the spring and fall. The main grape varieties are Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan.

Product notes

The majority of the wine making is done in carbonic maceration (Syrah) and in long vatting (Grenache, Mourvèdre). Aged for 12 months in new fine-grained French oak barrels, followed by further aging in tanks. An intense nose with notes of ripe dark berries revealing more spicy notes (pepper, cardamom and chili). A structured wine with fine and powerful tannins and a perfumed finish evoking olive and lavender.

Production notes

The result of the efforts of the Faugères cooperative cellar, Mas Olivier is today the leader of this relatively recent appellation which was formalized in 1982. The terroir, established on a schistous soil composed of ridges reaching 400m, is very favorable to the establishment of quality vineyards. It also benefits from a Mediterranean climate with cool nights. Most of the wine making is done in carbonic maceration (Syrah) and in long vatting (Grenache, Mourvèdre). Aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels, fine grain, followed by a further aging in vats.

Tasting notes

Deep color with purple reflections. An intense nose with notes of ripe black berries revealing after aeration more spicy notes such as pepper, cardamom and chili. A well-structured wine with fine and powerful tannins that ends on a perfumed finish evoking olive and lavender.
